Drugmaker Johnson & Johnson has issued a recall for lots of the antipsychotic medication Risperdal and its generic equivalent risperidone because of a bad odor reported in some of the tablets. The odor may be due to a chemical preservative called TBA that is used to treat the wooden pallets on which the drugs are shipped. About 16,000 bottles of the 3 mg Risperdal tablets that were shipped between last August and February are affected in the recall. Also included are about 24,000 bottles of 2 mg generic risperidone. Those who smell an uncharacteristic odor should return the tablets to their pharmacist and talk to a healthcare professional if they have questions.
