Antipsychotic Use Linked to Diabetes in Kids

Antipsychotic drugs that are used to treat children with bipolar disorder, autism, and even ADHD may increase a child's risk of developing diabetes, a new study suggests. These second-generation antipsychotics such as Risperdal, Zyprexa, Seroquel, and Abilify have been linked to diabetes in adults, and the new study found that kids on these meds had four times the risk of being diagnosed with diabetes as kids who didn't take the medications. Researchers say the link is statistically comparable to the rate of diabetes among kids who take antidepressants.  Read full story >
