Creating a Discipline Process at Home

(Page 5)

1)      When first implementing the plan, you and your spouse might want to decide to have a discussion once a week to review how everything it going and review the progress.  In the beginning, you may not see progress, as a matter of fact; you may see the opposite for a few weeks.  Your children may act up to test the new plan or test how well you really work together.  Be patient and give each other encouragement often.

2)      Make copies of all the daily routines, discipline measures and rewards that you have written up.  Make sure this is in a place that both of you can reference at any time.  Make a commitment together to follow the plan for a minimum of 90 days before determining if it is working or not.

3)      Have a family meeting and give children a copy of the daily routine and rules that will impact them.  You can laminate these copies and hang in their rooms for easy access.  You will also want to have a copy kept in a central location.

4)      Discuss your plans with any caregivers.  If you have a babysitter, make sure you discuss the plan thoroughly and let them know you expect them to follow it.
