I am a 56 year old female, mother of six.  Anaphylaxis shock caused by a Plum.  I swear, it was the only thing different that day from any other day.  This Plum was broken open by kids playing with the bag of the fruit.  I washed them but afraid maybe a pesticide or preservative was on them and absorbed into the fruit.  Within 30 minutes lips were tingling and swelling.  Hands red and swelling and very itchy.  Tongue swollen, and then then hives on stomach, back, and arms.

Hives have been familiar to me for many years and no idea it could get serious.  Yet I found myself in ER, feeling silly, but within 10 minutes, stopped breathing and lost blood pressure.  Last words "I don't feel right" and it all went gray and white.  When I "came back" it was all gray and white but I had oxygen mask on and could hear everyone yelling to stay with them.  Violently sick, beat any flu I ever had.  Dr. said he thought I also had a seizure.    They checked me over for spider or snake bite, as I was reacting like one who was bitten.   I had major amount of Epinephrine given intramuscular and then in IV.   Moved to ICU and hives came on me again so even more of the meds and again violently ill.

Now have been tested, still need results from the blood work up.  They did not do scratch test for the Plum.  Why buy trouble if they don't have to?  Trees, grasses, weeds, farm pollen, house dust and dust mites, molds, cats.  There goes  mowing the yard next year!  Cingular, Zyrtec, Nasonex, and inhaler are treatment for one month when we will discuss the course of treatment, namely, allergy shots.  Hey, if I can start to feel better after years and years of feeling bad, I'll take whatever they can give me for relief.   Carry two EpiPens with me at all times.  Dr. said it would be just a drop in the bucket as I had the equivalent of 10 or 12 EpiPens at the hospital.

Life is sweet and never more sweeter than when you find yourself so close to not being here to enjoy it.  Have been looking for support group to share experience with.  Trying to put it all into perspective.  I almost died.  wow.  It's very much my wake up call.  Anyone else experience something similiar?
