When my oldest son was born with celiac's it took me a while to figure it out - and to figure out that I had been living with celiac's all my life too! There just wasn't any information out there. So I started my own website www.smartfoodshealthykids.com for people with celiac's, other food allergies, or moms who just want their kids to eat healthier. I don't want other mothers to have to sift through all the, often contradictory, health information out there like I had to!

Hi Kellycorbet,
It is unfortunate that there is alot of misinformation and missing information about illnesses and conditions. When a child is involved, that makes it seem worse. The good news is not only did you find information to help you with your son, you also found some help for yourself!
I was doing some research here on Health Central and I ran across some links to information you might find interesting. This isn't to take the place of a doctor's advice, but it might help. One of the issues I noticed affecting celiac's is that people who do not have these allergies don't always understand those that do. They think, well a little (insert allergen ingredient here) won't hurt no one. And that is NOT the case. A food allergy could potentially kill someone!
Sloane Miller, (profile) is a resident expert here and also suffers from allergies, food as well as airborn. She wrote a very indepth article about sorting through Celiac Disease. You can read that article here. I read this article when I started my research and was surprised to read that gluten (the major cause fo Celiac disease) can be found in non food items like the glue on stamps and envelopes. Imagine having an allergic reaction to mailing a bill!
There are also postings with gluten free recipes located here. These are holiday recipes but they can be adapted for everyday meals.
Sloane also had an interview with Alice Sherwood, the author of "Allergy Free Cooking." She has alot of tips and recipes in her book. You can read the interview here.
I hope you find some of this information helpful. Please stay in touch and let us know how you are doing!
