Your Small Actions Can Mean Big Results: More on changing inhalers

By Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, Health Guide Monday, November 05, 2007
Last month, Californians suffered wildfire tragedies that led to the evacuation of nearly a million people. The fires took lives and destroyed precious land and homes. When asked to share how they were feeling, most Californians did not dwell on the loss of physical structures or the latest t...

Excuse me but, CHOOSE to use CFC asthma inhalers????? That choice was made long ago FOR me by my pulmonologist. Comparing ones' choice to use aerosol hair spray vs. a prescribed and needed medication in order to breathe is rediculous. How dare you USE the people of California and their tradgedy to sell HFA asthma inhalers that for the majority of people, don't work. My husband is a Fallen Firefighter and I resent the use of "tradgedy" to not only scare people, but to also give them bogus information. Are people aware of the fact that HFA inhalers do NOTHING to aid the environment? Are they aware that using one can kill them because they actually can cause the opposite affect? Are they aware that the Food and Drug Administration, The EPA and the Representatives from these drug companies are working together in this even though they already know that the HFA product in not up to par and does not harm the ozone? Are they aware that my eliminating CFC asthma medication, that the drug companies are going to make much more money, billions more, by marketing HFA? Are they aware that they will be inhaling ethonol? Are they aware that their new HFA inhaler's are going to double and triple in cost and this is why the drug companies are so anxious to get this done? Are they aware that the meetings between the three groups mentioned are more concerned about selling this horrible product to the public that the publics general inability to use the product? People need to get educated about this and not listen to every blog or post promoting HFA medication or any other medication for that fact. Those are the ones' to be skeptical of most. Do you think for one minute that just because of the Internation Treaty on banning CFC's MUST include CFC inhalers? No, it DOES NOT! ! ! But it is because you have billion dollar drug companies who scrambled to come up with a replacement of CFC inhalers and they have failed at it in every way! But what do they have to lose by all of this? NOTHING! This is their golden ticket to see their profits soar, all thanks to the FDA and EPA. Ask yourself just one question: Why would any of them give us a replacement product that does harm and does not work? Like I said, use common sense and take off your blinders. Do your research. Saving the CFC Inhalers equals saving people's lives. How incredible that of all the CFC products currently on the market and ozone depleting products, they are taking the one CFC product off the market that doesn't harm the ozone! Why? It's all about the almighty dollar people. You know it and I know it. Again, do your research before an HFA product either kills or shortens your lifespan. http://tinyurl.com/yphmp4

This article is a total non-sequiter. What you completely overlook, but was well covered in the media, was (still is, with new fires) the effect of all that smoke on athsma.

While the fires actually burned mostly well-to-do neighborhoods, the smoke went everywhere. The Albuterol HFA conversion will mean that fewer of these smoke-affected people will have the medicine they need, because it will cost a lot more. Even those of us with good insurance will pay - through higher premiums and co-pays. And that's if you accept that the HFA product works as well, which is also at issue.

This conversion to Albuterol HFA should be halted until the price of the new product to everyone, from the poor to the insurance companies, is the same as the old product. We also need new research concerning the comparitive effectiveness in a rescue situation, when an athsma attack is already underway. Sign the petition, write your comgressmen - 2008 is an election year. We've got to stop this massive wealth transfer from the people to the drug companies for unjustifiably re-patenting a generic drug when it is repackaged due to valid environmental concerns.

And, as for the Athsma and Allergy Foundation, even though I do not live in California, I do have athsma. You have exposed your callous disregard for the needs of athsmatics - and for Californians wheezing their way through the smoke. Shame on you for this glaringly insensitive article.

Having suffered terribly with air borne allergies such as cat dander, pollen, dust mite and others for years, I recently purchased a Cleanaer liquid ionizer from www.cleanaer.com

The product has changed my life, I can breathe! The product releases tiny droplets into the air that act as magnets and pull any pollutants to the ground. It is designed and manufactured by a British company and approved by the British Allergy Association and was recommended by a friend of mine. The other great thing is that it removes smells of cooking, smoke, paint and other irritants, even helps with my teenage son's room!
