New OTC Relief for Eye Allergies

By Kathleen MacNaughton, Health Pro Wednesday, February 13, 2008
I have eye allergies, and they're no fun. Any time of the year, but especially in the early summer and during ragweed season, I can expect to unexpectedly have itching, watering, and/or burning of one or both of my eyes.  Usually, I don't even know why it starts. Sometimes it only lasts ...

Hi, first I want to thank you for your well-intentioned post.
For several years I have the same allergies as you. Early spring and fall I have severe problems with my eyes. The same symptoms as yours: itching, watering, and burning of both of my eyes and also itching and burning and running water like from my nose. I visited several doctors and health facilities. I have done various tests for allergy, but no single test showed that I was allergic to something. I have visited and consulted with specialists in this area and they all just give me some allergy sprays and eye drops that act just now, but after an hour the inflammation occurs again. Indeed this is my big problem, my profession as IT engineer requires me to sit in front of a computer most of my time. This period can also take several days, until a few weeks. Mornings are my nightmare with swollen and inflamed eyes and dry nose. Several times I have even literally blind from this problem, but my eye specialist could not find any physical problem with my eyes... I dont know what to do... but i know one thing. That i can`t go out and can do nothing during this period...

Sorry for my english, its not my born language.

I empathize with you. Having suffered as severely as you at times, I know how hard it can be just to live when your eyes are so sore and so annoying. I live and work in front of the computer too, but sometimes my eye allergies make that impossible.

I have definitely found that the newer Zaditor eye drops help me a lot, but at times I've had to get a prescription for steroid eye drops from the doctor to stop the allergic process enough that I can recover.

I'm not sure there are any perfect, totally effective treatments for eye allergies yet, but things are definitely moving in the right direction. Just keep trying solutions until you find one that works fairly well for you.

To your health,

Kathi
