In my last post, I talked about allergies to medicine and how that can result in anaphylaxis. I thought I'd go into a bit more detail in this post about what anaphylaxis is and what you can do about it. Allergies come in many forms. There's the kind closely linked to asthma that can caus...

My new breastfed baby daughter got a rash on her bottom that got quite weepy and I had no idea what was causing it until I ran out of garlic and it cleared up.

We sat in the canteen at morning tea and as the young woman ate her toast we observed red spots appearing on her face and neck, finally someone commented on it and she said she did feel a bit funny in throat. By this time eyes were puffing and red spots welting, our boss, a volunteer emergency director had her in the car to hospital asap. By the time they got there she was having trouble breathing. She was off work for over a week. Cause-There was a hint of garlic butter on the knife used to butter her toast.

i also have that same problem, but without the red spots. my throat also closes more reguarly when i eat the stuff im allergic to. im also careful that i read labels and the ingredients when ever possible before i eat somthing, just to make sure. just so it does not happen again, i really suggest that you read labels and do what you need to do just to be safe. trust me, it helps. it can also save a life or two.

Curtis... I'm sure this is frightening. I know I don't need to tell you to be super diligent in everything you eat. Don't let food pass your lips unless you know exactly what is in it and how it was prepared. If you don't think you'll have time to use an Epi-Pen, then be sure your co-workers, family and friends all know how to give the shot and where to find it on your person. You might also think about wearing a Medic-Alert type bracelet so that anyone finding you in shock can quickly identify what might be going on.

    Stay healthy,
