If you wipe the dog or cat down with one of those new type clothes,

that will help keep the dander down.  Those paper softers work, too.

I have this problem all the time. I am allergic to dogs which is a huge pain as so many people have pets and therefore I can't visit their homes. People will say to me - oh don't worry - my dog is hypoallergenic!! Apparently my histamines and asthma don't care!! I am just as allergic to hypoallergenic dogs as any other dog.

It is a great risk to have a dog in the family. Look at the fact that all allergens you are exposed to during the day sums up. And the hypoallergenic dog may be the factor that will trigger the allergy. The only meaningfull thing to do is to limit any kind af allergen in your environment.

I purchased a poodle years ago because I was told it was hypoallergenic.  However, after a couple of weeks, I developed allergies so bad that my eyes would swell up every day!  I finally had to return the dog to the breeder, which caused a lot of turmoil in our family.  If a hypoallergenic breed is ever discovered, I would consider a dog again, but as for now, my health is more important!
