In my last few posts, I've covered some of the more common allergy triggers people with nasal, eye, and lung allergies need to be aware of, including dust, animals and mold. Unfortunately, these things are quite common in most home and work environments, so avoiding them can be a real challenge. Some might say impossible!
So you might ask, "Isn't it just easier to take allergy medicine to get rid of the allergy symptoms?" After all, the medicines available today often work great. And popping a pill sure seems easier than having to make major lifestyle and environmental changes.
But here's the thing -- although taking an allergy pill may seem like a magic potion of sorts, the truth is that all medications have side effects, because they are a foreign substance you are taking into your body's inner workings. The side effects with allergy medicines are usually mild and often go away in time. But still, wouldn't it be nice to not have to take any medicine at all? Or to be able to take less of it or less often?
The way to achieve that and to enhance your degree of allergy control is to reduce your exposure to your allergy triggers. Let's be realistic -- you're never going to avoid every trigger all of the time. With triggers being too small to see with the naked eye, you're guesstimating on where they are hanging out.
Still, we do know the most likely places and times when allergy triggers mount in the environment. So, there are some concrete steps you can always take that will reap solid benefits for you in avoiding your triggers. It may not work 100% of the time, but isn't even a 75% improvement better than what happens if you do nothing at all?
So, work this year to eliminate as many of your allergy triggers as you can in your home, car, and workplace. Clear the air and simplify your life. Before you know it, you'll be feeling a whole lot better and taking less medicine -- and that means an improvement in your quality of life!
