Allergic reactions to ingredients in the foods you eat can range from mild to severe; they can even be life-threatening in some cases. But not every reaction to food is an allergic reaction. Some people just have trouble tolerating certain foods. For instance, my daughter can't tolerate parmesan ...

Could you comment on the over the counter medications for lactose intolerance? And if they are an effective relief for this problem.

I make goat milk gelato, my sister-in-law (who has Crohn's disease) and is lactose intolerant can eat my ice cream. One question: id lactose intolerance usually associated w/ Crohn's? And another: sinnce doctors usually tell patients who are lactose intolerant to try goat milk, would the same recommendation apply to people who are allergic to cow's milk? It's my understanding that the molecules in goat milk are smaller and thus easier to digest. Do you know if the smaller molecules would also make goat milk less allergic?

I've tried many places for the answers and as yet have'nt found them.

    Thanks

    Hi there,

Unfortunately, I'm not going to be able to give you an answer either. I'm no expert on Crohn's Disease or the fine nuances of lactose intolerance. My expertise goes more to allergies (mostly the skin, nose, and eye type) and asthma. But I don't think molecule size would make a difference in allergies. You either ARE allergic to a substance... or you're not.

Sorry I can't be more helpful...

An allergy is the immune system's over-reaction to a normally harmless substance called an allergen.
