Alergy tests NEGATIVE

By Corazón Thursday, March 29, 2007

Hello Everyone,

My son is a healthy, active 16 year old who about 9 mos ago had his very first episode of what the Dr is calling Angioedema.  His eyes swell up A LOT, to the point where they shut.  Sometimes it starts with a bit of an itch and then redness and then within seconds they engorge and swell.  According to two tests, he isn't allergic to anything.  The Dr has no other idea as to what it might be and I am very worried and stressed out to see him like this!  His eyes have swollen to this degree about 4 times in 9 months now.  At first I thought it was Pink Eye and then his throat got a bit tight and he said it was hard to swallow so we ended up in the hospital.  A steroid shot brought the swelling down.  The Dr suggested we NOT medicate him daily and just bring him in for a shot if it does happen again but I was wondering if anyone had something similar happen to them or a loved one so that I might get some sort of idea as to how to aproach this now.  I'm baffled!  And upset that the Dr has no answers for me...Can anyone offer any help?  Please.
