Protecting Your Child From Food Allergies at Preschool

By Gina Clowes, Health Guide Monday, April 20, 2009
You've gotten through skin testing or blood testing and nailed down the food culprits causing your child to react. You've worked through the kinks with neighbors and in-laws, and your hubby remembers the Epi-Pen (almost) every time, and just when you feel you might just have a handle on this allergy ...

This is a great article to get parent's started with school and their allergic child. Our little boy has severe food allergies (nuts, melon and sunflower) and avoids a few others. He begins preschool in a few weeks and I am a bit nervous but I feel good about this preschool and how they handle allergies. It is a no-nut facility, they have other kids who have severe allergies, the teacher's are trained on Epi-pen use, and they are across the street from the hospital! I plan on taking a box of safe foods in for him and will be meeting with the teachers and director next week to just talk and share his situation.

Our son is so much better now that he is taking his Vidazorb kids chewable probiotics though and this has helped with my anxiety towards school for him. We avoid severe allergies, but there was a time when he could only eat chicken, peas and rice because he was sooo sensitive to all kinds of foods triggering Eczema. He is in a much better "place" now and thankfully even loves his Vidazorb! I am thankful for sure- it has made things easier for us all!

I am thankful for your article! This is a challenge for many parents and children :)
