P  Pack and prepare! Make sure that your child has all of the essentials:

  • Food: Meals, Snacks, Drinks, Water. Pack extra for sharing.
  • Medicines: At least two epinephrine auto-injectors (check expiration dates), antihistamine, band aids (non-latex) and any other medications.
  • Communication: Cell phone or walkie talkie for child or camp counselor, contact information for parents and others.
  • Emergency Form: Prepare a Food Allergy Action Plan complete with a recent photo of your child and detailed instructions on treating allergic reactions. Include contact information for parents and physicians. An extra copy of this form should be inside the child's medication bag.
  • Personal Care: Many allergic children have sensitive skin so make sure that your child has his own soap, shampoo, lip balm and any special creams, lotions, and sunscreen.

With some research on the right camp and some important prep work behind the scenes, you can be sure that your little camper will be well on the way to a memorable time at summer camp!
