Irritated Throat

By Heather Wednesday, February 11, 2009

Hi,

I am constantly having to clear my throat, like it is irritated and I don't know why. I have had allergies all my life, but have never been checked to see what exact type of allergy it is. It is usually worse indoors actually. What can I do about the throat? (Cough drops seem to make it feel better temporarily).

An irritated throat can be caused by many things. First of all you should have those allergy tests to see what you are allergic to. The test results will not change what you are allergic to, but you can help to control what actually irritates your body. You say that it mostly happens when you are indoors, chances are that you are allergic to dust

and or dust mites, if you are you can take the necessary steps to help your situation.

You might have to encase your pillows and mattresses with special allergen covers which are proven to help people with those types of allergies. Also, make an appointment with an ent dr to check your nose. If your nose is congested it can be causing the irritation of your throat. Get checked. Try a humidifier as the air in your place can be dry.

In my case, I suffered from the same thing.  Then, I researched the side effects of the medication I was taking and realized that one of the side effects is feeling those kinds of throat symptoms.  Another side effect is ear infections.   So, I stop taking the medication that I was on (Singular) and the throat symptoms went away.  My advice would be to stop taking your medication.  If you feel any different, change your prescription.  I hope you feel better because I know what it's like to feel almost your whole life like that!  Maybe the side effects affect people differently but just try.
