Sunday, August 10, 2008 Deborah McGee asks

Q: could p-ephed-cpm cause high blood pressure?

The allergist just recently had to switch our 22 year old son to p-ephed-cpm.  The little allergy capsule he has taken all of this life became unavailable.  Could this new table cause high blood pressure because all of a sudden his blood pressure has been high?

Hi Deborah,

Thank you for your question! High blood pressure is a serious side effect associated with pseudoephedrine use. You can read more about the side effects of pseudoephedrine here. I would recommend that your son speak with his doctor and see if there's another medication that he could try.

Best of luck,

Casey
