Typical allergy symptoms include:

  • Runny nose
  • Frequent or repetitive sneezing
  • Itching in the nose, eyes, throat, or roof of the mouth
  • Nasal congestion and possibly plugged ears.
  • Fatigue.
  • Irritability, a slight decrease in attention span, worsened memory, and slower thinking.
  • Decreased sense of smell, plugged ears, sinus headache, postnasal drip or some combination. In severe allergies, dark circles may develop under the eye. The lower eyelid may be puffy and lined with creases.

Typical symptoms of a food allergy include some of those listed above, as well as:

  • scratchy throat
  • anaphylaxis (a severe, whole-body allergic reaction that can result in death)
  • abdominal pain
  • diarrhea
  • nausea
  • vomiting
  • stomach cramps
  • hives
  • angioedema (swelling, especially of the eyelids, face, lips, and tongue)
  • light-headedness or fainting
  • shortness of breath
  • wheezing
  • difficulty swallowing

I suggest you see your doctor right away. These symptoms you listed, together, may not be an allergy, but some other illness such as flu (thought that seems unlikely at this time of year) or a host of other infections. However, you should definitely ask about the possibility of a food allergy and get the appropriate tests to find out exactly what's ailing you.

Good luck!

My daughter has a delayed onset (type 2 allergy) to several foods.  She gets the strangest symptoms.  freequent urges to pee, inflamation of the joints, low grade fever, vomiting, dark circles under her eyes.  With this type of allergy the allergen enters the blood stream, so anywhere blood travels through your body (which is everywhere!) can be effected, any organ, tissue, joint, etc, etc.

An allergy is the immune system's over-reaction to a normally harmless substance called an allergen.
