Q: I am allergic to hair dye. What is the ingrediant I am allergic to.

I told my hair dresser that I am allergic to hair dye.My hair dresser said I could use a vegatable dye. I let her do it and my face and eyes are all swollen red itchy. What is the ingredeant I'm allergic to? is it sulfate? or PPD? How will I ever know. I was told as a child I was allergic to kelflex? I have taken the drug Bactrim without a problem. I don't think I am allergic to bleach or amonia so it has to be something else?

HI there,

There's really no way we can tell you what you are allergic to in the hair dye. Your best bet is to consult with an allergist, who may be able to do skin testing to determine what it is you're reacting to. Meanwhile, I'd avoid hair dye altogether. It's likely that each reaction will get progressively worse and could be serious, if continued.

Good luck,

Kathi
