Is there a site with a list of foods safe to eat? (healthy and cheap)
My classroom has many students with food allergies this year. We have some long days where I have served a snack like: cereal, graham crackers, string cheese, pretzels, etc... I never had to worry about food allergies. This year I have several
peanut, egg, fish, and milk allergies. The parents will provide things to eat , but if I would like to have a few items that maybe the whole class could enjoy. Any such luck?
Thanks!
There are no one-size-fits-all snacks all children will like and that don't contain a single, solitary food allergen. There are no single lists of safe foods to eat because people with different food allergies can and cannot eat different things. But, there are lists of food ingredients that may cause problems for people with food allergies.

Keep in mind that any baked goods (crackers, cookies, cake, bread, etc.) are likely to contain multiple food allergens such as wheat, soy, egg and milk. Also note that a food may be contaminated by other food allergens if it's made in a place where the other allegens are present. That why food labels will say things like "Product was made in a facility that processes tree nuts."
You can also try buying a food allergy cookbook. They usually include recipes for cheap, easy-to-make snacks for children that avoid certain allergies. Have the children's parents help you -- perhaps they can take turn making treats for the kids or provide you with detailed lists of safe foods.
There are also more and more food allergy-friendly companies that provide treats that everyone, including children who DON'T have food allergies, can enjoy. Try Meraby, a dairy-free company created by Jamie Martin, who writes for this site, or Divvies or Cherrybrook Kitchen.

For kids with peanut allergy or other food allergies, there really is NO such thing as a safe candy or safe snack list.
At my site, AllergyMoms.com, I have a list of some allergen-free snacks and treats you may want to try. I'm providing this list only as a place to start. It's up to you to decide if any of these treats are safe for your child (or the students in your class):
