An ex-friend who is a respitory therapist believed I have EIA. We never got to do peak flow testing as he suggested we do.
I am trying to find a doctor that specializes in this form of asthma as I do not actually have asthma. I've always had a bit of a breathing problem when running but always when it was cold out, it would actually feel like my lungs were on fire and would gasp for air or stick my face in my shirt to breathe. But recently now that running season is in full bloom I have noticed that my breathing is worse, I find myself stopping during my short races because I can't breathe and though my legs dont hurt I feel weak. This friend noticed that my breathing was worse when the pollen counts were high as he is allergic to pollen and asthmatic.
I had a patch test allergy test done I believe a year ago and I wasn't allergic to anything! However, this year when pollen counts are high(not that I know as I don't check) but I will mention how I am coughing like something is in my throat or possibly sneezing and someone with allergies to pollen will mention that it's allergies! So something new developed recently.
I don't want to give up my competitive running and it is long distance running I do. I have a half marathon coming up in July and a few more races this month that are shorter. I don't want to have to walk for any of the races just so I can catch my breath! I went to webmd to look for pulmonologist but the friend suggested respitory therapists and not sure how to find those but willing to go to a pulmonologist that can truly identify if this is indeed exercise induced asthma because I really dont want to give up my running. I love it but it is killing me that my breathing has become impared so much!
