Q: A Nut Allergy turns out to be Chronic Random Urticaria after 20 months of suffering?

My 2 Yr old had a Anaphalactic reaction at only 6 months old, treated at                 St Richards Hospital A&E department, It was stated that she had a Nut Allergy, so she had to have a nut free world from there on. Despite all these lifestyle n diet changes, my daughter continued to have persisting Allergy symptons, Eczema, hives, rashes, swelling, wheezing, luckly its been only these symptons and not as dramatic as the anaphalactic reaction, (although we carry Epipens everywhere we go since the first episode). She s also on a daily percription of  Cetrizine 2.5mg daily as Piriton wasn't very effective, as symptons became daily.

My daughter has been seen by countless Doctors, Pedatricans, etc all saying for 1 and a half years she was suffering from Allergies, then as the Autumn weather started she become very poorly with upper respiritory virual infections, she was losing weight rapid, using perscribed ventolin inhalers far to many times to try and enable her to breath without coughing, gagging, reaching and wheezing. Her Temp was up and down, she was also treated for croupe with 2 nebulisers and a steriod thats given as a one off dose, although it stabilized her sats overnight it never releaved or took away the coughing and shortness of breath. This episode lasted 13 weeks. She had  2 weeks where she was virus free but it returned again but only lasting 7 days.

Upon returing for our second appointment to a specialised allergist at                        southampton university hospital  he revealed how a tested had shown              my daughter WASN'T an allergic person (which was very shocking to me, as for the previous months she'd shown allergy symptons on a weekly n daily basis)

He said that he's 80% sure he has found what Ruby's condition is.

......In total we have met with this Doctorr for only 2 hours top's.......

                    " Chronic Random Urticaria "

Not Nut Allergies, or any other Allergy related matters!!!!!!

Upon researching this condition It would make sense with my daughters history of symptons n reactions and why medications that were perscribed or advised on werent releaving the problems. It makes such a difference to her life aswell as us as a family now and in the future. It just disappoints me greatly that my daughter had to become as ill as she has and endure so many days, weeks and months off illness, before this step was reached.

To know for sure it wasn't a Nut Allergy that caused the Anaphalactic Reaction upon onset of her ailments, a food challenge is going to be done under medical care n supervision, which i'm very apprehensive about but realise that the blood n skin tests that have been done to determine a nut allergy have been negative.

" Chronic Random Urticaria "   can also cause a Anaphalactic Reaction.
