Hi Minoda,

Chronic itching can be very aggravating as you apparently know. Allergists are often frustrated (because of their inability to identify the trigger) by patients that have this problem because unless they come in with a specific list of suspected triggers, the cause is often very difficult to determine.

I usually ask several questions about foods, medications, over the counter pills, herbs and supplements, all topicals, dyes in foods and beverages, bug bites, stings, plant and animal contact. There are actually more questions on my list but I'll stop here.

The healing process for some people, after the skin is damaged by scratching, can include variable scarring and pigmentation.

Some allergic and non-allergic skin diseases may be caused or enhanced by sun exposure.

You should see an allergist or dermatologist. Think about the potential triggers I mentioned above and make a list of the ones you may be exposed to.

Best of Luck,

J. Thompson, MD.
