There's a nurse who writes for the site, Kathi MacNaughton, who wrote a blog post about finding the best allergy medicine: How Can You Know Which Allergy Medicine Is Best?
There's also a number of comments on the post from people asking questions similar to yours with Kathi's responses. I'd start there.
