Hi Tom!   There's a nurse who writes for the site, Kathi MacNaughton, who wrote a blog post about finding the best allergy medicine: How Can You Know Which Allergy Medicine Is Best?   There's also a number of comments on the post from people asking questions similar to yours with Kathi's responses. I'd start there.   You can also look through a list of the some of the more common and popular allergy medicines on the allergy drug information page.   If that doesn't help, let me know and I'll see if I can dig up some more information for you!   Joy B.
