Q: is benadryl prescribed o treat nightmares

My sister inlaws says her doctor prescribed benadryl for her 14month old to stop his nightmares. I have never heard of such a thing and Iam concerned she is using it to put him to sleep.

I have never heard of using it to stop nitemares, but I did have a nurse tell me to take up to 3 per night, because it help's you to sleep. I am adult.....so I don't know about children and nitemares?? I would be careful...Undecided

antihistamines (like benadryl) are commonly used to prevent nightmares, in children and adults.  they are additionally recommended for those suffering from nightmares as a result of post-traumatic stress disorder (ptsd).  if you search on google, you will find plenty of information about this topic.
