Q: Is it possible to be allergic to grape juice?

Is it possible to be allergic to grape juice? Every time I drink it, I get a fire sensation in my throat that feels like instant strep throat. It doesn't last for all that long (it varries depending on how much I drank, but it HURTS.

Hi there... In theory, it's possible to be allergic to almost anything. So, a food allergy could be at work here. It could also be a food intolerance, though those symptoms usually tend more to be digestive in nature. In any event, I think I'd stop drinking grape juice. If you do have a sensitivity to it, continuing to expose yourself to it can only make things worse.

For more information, you might consult with an allergist.

To your health,

Kathi

According to Allergizer, it's not necessarily the grape juice, but a substance in the juice that could cause a problem. Take a look at http://www.allergizer.com/50226711/bee_sting_allergies_from_grape_juice_and_wine.php.
