I have been looking for chewing gums that do not contain aspertame or artificial colors, etc., and a natural foods store recommended one called XyliChew. After chewing this for a few weekes, one evening I noticed some sensitive bumps on my tongue. I cannot be certain that these were "caused" by the gum, but I could not think of any other possible triggers at the time. I noticed in the ingredient list that Xylichew's "gum base" is made from "original latex from Sapodilla tree." Can frequent chewing of gum containing latex lead to the development of latex allergy or sensitivity?
(To the best of my knowledge, I do not have a history of latex allergy, though I am allergic to many plant-based ingredients--I tried switching to natural skin moisturizers, and almost everyone caused my face to get red. I need to chew gum because bruxism has led to the beginnings of gum recession and also to scraping the enamel off the top of several molars, so I really need to keep my mouth clean throughout the day--but I know aspertame, etc., is extremely unhealthy).
