Q: Allergy to microporous tape!

I have just had an allergy to microporous tape (which I was using due to a sticking plaster allergy).  Is microporous tape the least allergic form of 'plaster'? Will I be likely to be able to use anything else or will I need to use bandages in future? Mercifully, although it was irritating, it wasn't as bad a reaction as I get to sticking plaster!

Hi Sue,

Thanks for writing! It's always hard to know what will trigger an allergic reaction in different people. Generally microporous tape is hypoallergenic, but apparently you are sensitive to it. You might try a different brand or paper tape. Another option is to first spray the area to be taped with a skin barrier film like 3M's Cavilon.

Good luck to you,

Kathi
