Hi mjb101,   According to to the AAAAI, American Academy of Allergy Asthma & Immunology, milk allergies are quickly rising as a threat for anaphylaxis. Sloane Miller, a resident expert here, has an article outlining the AAAAI's position and research from a conference she attended. You can read the article here. There is also an article here where noted Author Alice Sherwood outlines the top allergens. She also notes the difference between allergy and intolerance. You can read the interview here. Because casein and whey are the two main protein allergens in milk, you should not eat foods that have these ingredients.   There is a member here named Laurie who has extensive allergies to garlic as well as milk. She has written her experiences and research in this sharepost. You can click here to read the entire posting, but here is an excerpt regarding milk and products containing milk:   Milk Ingredients to Avoid Ammonium/calcium/magnesium/potassium/sodium caseinateCasein/caseinate/rennet caseinCurdsDelactosed/demineralized wheyDry milk/milk/sour cream/sour milk solidsHydrolyzed casein, hydrolyzed milk proteinLactalbumin/lactalbumin phosphateLactate/lactose   Possible sources of milk Artificial butter, butter fat/flavour/oil, ghee, margarineBaked goods and baking mixes e.g., breads, cakes, doughnutsFried foods Brown sugar, high-protein flourButtermilk, cream, dips, salad dressings, sour cream, spreadsCaramel colouring/flavouringCasein in wax, e.g., fresh fruits and vegetablesCasseroles, frozen prepared foodsCereals, cookies, crackersCheese, cheese curds, cottage/soy cheeseChocolateDesserts, e.g., custard, frozen yogurt, ice cream, pudding, sherbet, yogurtEgg/fat substitutesFlavoured coffee, coffee whitenerGlazes, nougatGravy, saucesKefir (milk drink), kumiss (fermented milk drink), malt drink mixesMeats, e.g., canned tuna, deli/processed meats, hot dogs, pâtés, sausagesPizzaPotatoes, e.g., instant/mashed/scalloped potatoes, seasoned french fries/potato chipsSeasoningsSnack foods, e.g., candy, fruit bars, granola barsSoups, soup mixesTofu Non-food sources of milk CosmeticsMedicationsPet food Ingredients that do not contain milk protein Calcium/sodium lactateCalcium/sodium stearoyl lactylateCocoa butterCream of tartarOleoresin     I hope you find this helpful.
