how do I know if my son is allergic to peanuts

My 6yr old ate some shelled peanuts yesterday and within minutes had stomach cramps diarhea and vomitting. No other syptoms and it was over in about 10 min. Obviously I suspect the peanuts but he has never reacted before this. Does this make sense?  could it be something else?
