Q: Help......I am having hives; bottom lip swelling; throat a little......sometimes rt. side of face

doctor's just tell me it's an allergic reaction and gives me meds.

I don't want to take meds to feel better; I'd like to know why I'm having these outbreaks so they don't happen again

I look like a monster when it happens; it'll usually last 2 days..

I have to take Loratadine; fomotodine; benadryl and sometimes Predisone

Has anyone gotten healed from this ordeal?

Hi Kalene,

I agree, you need to get to the root of what is causing your outbreaks. These symptoms are serious, because over time, if you keep exposing yourself to whatever is triggering your hives, etc., the symptoms may become more intense. They could even worsen into what is known as anaphylaxis, which is life-threatening. You don't want that to happen.

The most common cause of anaphylaxis is food allergies. But stinging insects, latex and some medicines can also trigger anaphylaxis. So you need to find out ASAP what is causing your symptoms. I suggest you start keeping a symptom diary. Record everything you do, eat or take, along with when you start to notice the symptoms you reference above. Over time, you may start to notice a pattern.

I am concerned, though, how long it may take to do this. So I would also encourage you to see an allergist as soon as possible, to evaluate whether you need allergy testing.

Take care,

Kathi

Try taking high dosage Vit C.  I took 2000mgh Vitamin C in AM and ANOTHER 1,000 IN PM... and got relief.  I also increased Benadryl by taking three at a time (75mg). The only thing I ate during the day was oatmeal and a few slices of orange.  You may never know what you're allergic to but your body may be trying to tell you to slow down and eat simpler meals. Hope this helps.  ProfGee
