Q: I had a skin reaction (see below) after getting a number of minor scratches working next to a thorny rose bush. Could this be a skin allergy to roses, or rose thorns? Ideas for first aid?

While weeding, I got a number of minor scratches on my arms from a throrny shrub rose bush. A couple of hours later I realized that each scratch was raised and puffy, looking like hives. The swelling improved by the next AM, but maybe because there was this inflammation, each scratch is scabbed over and looks like it will take longer to heal than a minor scratch typically would. Could I have an allergy to rose thorns? Would this be likely to happen if I get scratches from any rose thorns? If it does, any first aid treatment you could recommend? Thanks!
