Someone with anemia has a low red blood cell count, and this will give the appearance of paleness. If you have a naturally light or very white complexion then this won't mean much, but otherwise it could be a sign of anemia. Most women are somewhat on the verge particularly around menstruation because of the loss of blood. If you think you are somewhat paler than usual and/or have been suffering from dizziness, unusual tiredness, difficulty concentrating, etc., and particularly if you do not consume a lot of iron in your regular diet, you might consider a couple of options. The best way (although depending on your country and health plan, not necessarily the most sensible financially) is to get a simple blood test from your doctor. A cheaper method would be to change your diet a little bit and introduce more iron, which is abundant in red meat (beef and lamb, organs in particular) but also "white" meats (pork, chicken, turkey), fish (sardines, cod, halibut), shellfish (mussels, oysters, clams, shrimp), dairy products (milk, cheese), most beans, spinach, and eggs. You can also try taking an iron supplement pill once a day. If you feel that your color returns to your complexion and your other symptoms disappear then it may be a very simple solution of small changes to your diet. (I know my mother used to take iron supplements about a week before her period to "stock up" so to speak, although I'm not sure how long iron will remain in your system if you consume more than you need.) If your symptoms don't clear up then you should definitely see your doctor; anemia often has other sources than simply dietary deficiency, such as B12 intrinsic factor immuno-suppression or even internal bleeding.
i am not a doctor but my friend is anemic and it is a lack of iron. i dont know why someone would say you look anemic because my friend is a little heavy. but her symptoms are dissiness, bone soreness/popping, nauseous, and fainting. she has to take iron pills, prenatal pills and have a good diet with iron and fiber and things like that. like i said im no doctor but theres what i know about it.
