Q: After having intradermal allergy testing I developed an immediate severe reaction?

Went for allergy testing.  Had intradermal testing done.  Had immediate severe reaction in the form of redness, swelling and itching at the site.  Was told I could leave Doctor's office.  Within a few hours developed runny nose, itchy nose, and dry eyes.  Soon after that I developed hives on my trunk.  I immediately called the doctor's office to let them know what was happening.  They told me to take Allavert and to take Benadryl at night.  Within the next half hour I started having feeling of my throat being very hot and burning.  I then felt like I had a hard time swallowing.  My chest was a bit tight.  I then was rushed by ambulance to the hospital.  I was given Benadryl and Albuterol which brought things under control.  My body was shaking and tingling and I was extremely light headed and dizzy.  I was breathing very deeply and was trying to catch my breath.

When I developed the symptoms of hives and was showing to have a delayed reaction to the testing, should I have gone to the emergency room?
