Thank you so much! After reading this and thinking I was mad/had a brain tumour/was seriously ill, (I now realise that I must simply have a sensitive nose. We live in a three bed semi, have full double glazing and no-one in our family smokes. Unfortunately our attached neighbours DO smoke, usually outside. Since it's very cold at the moment, it could be they are smoking indoors, although we are at a loss as to how the smoke could actually be getting into our property as all doors and windows are closed tight and there aren't any vents or anything. If anyone can suggest how we can stop this without offending our otherwise pleasant neighbours, we would be very grateful (my husband and sons can't smell it, but they do believe me, nevertheless). Help and suggestions appreciated, as when this happens, I begin to feel quite ill. My chest constricts and my throat feels sore. I think it could be a reaction brought on from childhood as both my parents smoked in the house (it was the done thing when I was young) and I hate the smell now. Thanks.
