Q: Low blood pressure reaction to allergy shot

Every time I get my allergy shot my blood pressure drops significantly and my doctor thinks its psyco symatic, but it's not thanks to his placaebo tests, he seems unwilling to change the shots what do I do? Oh and I can't change doctors because he has already billed my insurance for the initial 6 mo treatment? On my 3rd shot I got carted off to the ER in an ambulance from work, because my blood pressure dropped to 60/43 and I was having trouble breathing over 6 hours after getting the shot. Now I get my shots on my day off, but if I walk around too much my blood pressure drops, so I go straight home and stay in bed for the whole day. Does anyone else get this because my doctor seems extremely perplexed. I had allergy shots for a month before I moved to a different state and the only side effect I got was flu like symptons the day I got the shot.

I also (tho not every time) get flu-like symptoms from the allergy shots....and often just from an onslaught of pollen, especially in the first few weeks of spring.  Have had blood pressure problems for the past two springs, and am only now wondering if it is pollen-related, etc.  Seeing a new doctor tomorrow....will let you know if I learn anything.

I'm a retired nurse...and my gut feeling is that you really DO need to see another allergist for a one-time opinion.  The shots sound more dangerous for you than the allergies (tho I realize that may not be the case).

I went into anaphylaxis a few years ago after one of the shots (mites)...so they slowed the increase and limited the highest dose.  So, changing the shots or the regimen of them...is something they can do.  Which is why I say you should see another doctor.  He can always call your doctor and suggest alternatives.

Good luck!  LJ
