red swollen eyeball (not eyelid or surrounding area; the actual eye itself)

my daughter's actual eyeball is swollen. She woke up early this morning eye was fine. She went back to sleep and woke up, eye was swollen, reddish yellow, and glassy. What could be wrong? We have an appointment at her pediatric today, but I am curious to know now.
