please tell me what I can do to know the cause of my allergic!!!!!

I have an allergic but I don't no the cause.It occurs almost everyday especially at night.It cover all of my skin and I just keep on itching my whole body.when the itching go away my skin swells.I sometimes take medicine without doctors prescription to get some relief.I am just afraid that the medicine might have side effect. I have been suffering for more than 7 years.what do you advice me to do.I am really desperate for an answer .please!!!!!
