Q: My issue comes after I swim in the pool. Generally, but not always, within 30 minutes of swimming, I break out with welts and hives. I am EXTREMELY itchy during the episode. What can be the trigger?

If I avoid the pool, then after a week, the itching subsides. However, just going near the pool, without even contacting the pool, I can often suffer as if I swam. The pool is open to the Air. I use Chlorine in the liquid form. The latest instance of the effects where after I used a shock pack, I also added Calcium to the pool as well as Chlorine tablets. Yesterday (6/19) I measured the pool, the Chlorine did not measure any, so my assumption is it was free both in both measurements. The PH was slightly high, and I had my chlorine tablets out of the pool for a week, just so I could experiment with what is triggering my reaction. My Symptoms include - Itching, usually on calves, thighs, lower stomach, chest, lower back, and arms. I also experience an asthmatic response, where I have massive amounts of mucus in my lungs. My sinus become clogged. My eyes become extremely bloodshot. I am confused by the recent event of yesterday, because the water was "neutral" with no registered chlorine, calcium is at 220, and PH at 7.8. One other side note, prior to me shocking the pool with the shock pack and raising the calcium, I had minor itching which would subside within a day. It has been over a month since I shocked the pool with the shock pack, so surely the chemicals in it would be gone. Another point of interest, I have never been allergic to swimming in a chlorinated pool until now. Any help would be appreciated, as living like this is miserable. Especially living in FL where it is hot and humid all the time.
