I've had asthma for 65 yrs., 10 yrs. ago had to go to emergency room after using Relafen.  I'm also allergic to shellfish and have some environmental allergies. I can use Tylenol safely, but what is available should I develop DVT???

Hi Barb,

The best person to ask is your doctor. Only you and your doctor know what is best for you. I know that fish oil capsules (omega 3 capsules) are not only good for your heart, but they also can be blood thinning.  you should ask your doctor before taking any suppliments to make sure there is no interaction with anything else you take.

Take care and stay in touch and let us know how you are doing!

Hi Barb,

Thank you for your question! There are other options available besides aspirin. Coumadin is an anticoagulant (used to prevent blood from clotting) that is commonly used for DVT prevention. If you should develop a DVT, there are injectable medications, including Lovenox, Arixtra, and heparin that can be used. All of these medications are safe to use in patients who are allergic to aspirin. I hope this helps!

Best of luck,

Casey

An allergy is the immune system's over-reaction to a normally harmless substance called an allergen.
