Yesterday, I woke up with what looked like a horrible sunburn on my face.

I have not been directly in the sun for a few days.  Anything I put on my face makes it burn.  Even water!

Do you have any other symptoms, like pain anywhere in your body?

I saw an episode on the Discovery Health Channel where a woman started looking like he had a sunburn all year (didn't mention burning) - turned out he had Addison's Disease, where the adrenal glands don't produce enough cortisol, a kind of hormone resembling cortisone (that's the replacement for it).  But it can take a while to be diagnosed... There may be other diseases that have similar puzzling symptoms not recognizable as disease at first...

An allergy is the immune system's over-reaction to a normally harmless substance called an allergen.
