I cain't stand the sun, my eyes will close on me even tho i am trying to keep them open. I also suffer from inside allergys, all it takes is to be subjected to them. I am on a medication because of rapid heart so I cain't take most meds that would help, what can i take as a eye drop.

Hi Nancy,

With your medical history, I'd check with your doctor before adding any new medication to the mix, just to be sure. But there are 2 fairly new over the counter antihistamine eye drops on the market you may want to look into. They contain a drug called ketotifen and are sold under the brand names of Zaditor and Alaway. They are quite effective at relieving eye allergy symptoms and would probably be safer for you than an oral antihistamine because they act only where they are needed -- in your eyes. Artificial tears are safe for anyone to use and might also provide some relief.

Additionally, if you are unable to take allergy medicine by mouth, you might look into the possibility of allergy shots, which will lessen your sensitivities (and symptoms) over time. They're not an overnight fix, but they may provide you long-term relief. Consult an allergist for more information on allergy shots.

To your health,

Kathi

An allergy is the immune system's over-reaction to a normally harmless substance called an allergen.
