Q: Can an allergy to corn cause a severe reaction to plastic tableware made from corn?

I ended up in the ER after a breakfast using a Biodegradable plastic fork.  The cornstarch in 2 aspirin is enough to give me the shakes, but so far I haven't read anything about corn-plastics triggering a severe allergic reaction.

If you have a severe food allergy to corn, then yes, coming into contact with any corn product could potentially trigger anaphylaxis. So it makes sense to discover what kind of products are corn products and then do your best to avoid them.

Because total avoidance of such a common product may be impossible, it also may make sense to discuss with your doctor the possibility of carrying injectable epinephrine with you at all times.
