Hi Lois,   The fact that the stinger was left in place means you were stung by a honeybee or bumblebee. Local swelling, redness and pain are very typical of these reactions. Fortunately you did not have a severe systemic reaction (anaphylaxis) to the sting. Here is a link to a review I wrote about bee stings: (click here)   The local toxic reaction that frequently accompanies the insect sting usually resolves within days. You may be experiencing a complication called cellulitis. Involvement of your sinuses is unusual.   I hope by now you have been rechecked by your doctor. Cellulitis is an infection of the skin and underlying tissues.
