It is very possible that your daughter could have asthma at 7 months of age, particularly if you or her other parent have allergies and/or asthma. Asthma is also a higher risk in babies exposed regularly to secondhand smoke or air pollution.
It's difficult to diagnose a baby with asthma for sure, though, because the tests used on adults are not as usable on babies. Also babies can't say how they are feeling. So, if babies have common asthma symptoms like wheezing or coughing (especially during nighttime hours), doctors will often treat them as if they had asthma and try to diagnose more definitively as the child gets older.
Asthma is fairly easy and safe to treat with inhaled steroids. Babies usually need to get them via a nebulizer machine. If asthma is left untreated, it can cause permanent lung damage, so if you suspect your daughter has asthma, be sure to consult with her doctor as soon as possible!
