My two yeear old got semi swollen and red eyes last night - could it be an allergy?

We were at a friends house last night, where he has been before, but for shorter periods of time. They have a dog, a cat, and smoke. After being there for about an hour, his eyes started to itch him, got red and a little swollen. Today, they are still red, and he is still itching…
