Q: is hydroxyzine the off brand of xanax?

Thanks for your question. Hydroxyzine if not a generic Xanax. While they are both used to treat anxiety, they have different chemical makeups and do so in different ways. Hydroxyzine is an antihistime. Xanax is a benzodiazepine that slows down chemicals in the brain. This is a very consice, simplified answer.
