Can cat allergens be cleaned from vinyl and wood or does it penetrate vinyl/wood?
We are buying a motor home which may have had a cat in it. I am asthmatic and allergic to cats i.e. the protein in cat saliva. I know that it sticks to walls, ceilings, etc., and that it penetrates fabricS, carpet, etc. I plan to take all carpeting and fabric out and wash all woodwork, walls and ceilings. Is that enough to get rid of cat allergens?
THANKS!
That should be plenty. Cat allergens can't penetrate hard surfaces like wood or non-porous surfaces like vinyl (or, at least, I've never heard of any such thing!).

Hi there,
As Joy says, that should be sufficient, but it is important to note that cat dander is one of the most persistent allergens. It can stick around for months or even years after a cat no longer lives in a place.
Definitely, you'll want to steam clean any curtains, cushions or carpeting that you don't remove, vacuum the entire RV with a HEPA-filter equipped vacuum cleaner, and wipe down all hard surfaces. Be sure to remove all dust, because dander collects in dust.
And don't forget to change out any heater vent or air conditioner filters too!
To your health & motor home happiness,
Kathi
