Hi Kevin,

Benadryl is in the FDA pregnancy category B. This means that it is not expected to be harmful to an unborn baby. However, you should never take any medicine during pregnancy -- whether over the counter or prescription -- without first checking with your obstetrician to make sure it is safe.

Best,

Kathi

I had to go to the ER due to an allergic reaction while pregnant.  They gave me Benadryl and said it was safe as long as I follow proper dosing.

An allergy is the immune system's over-reaction to a normally harmless substance called an allergen.
