Q: Will my cat cause allergies if she is in the basement of a home seperate from the allergic person?

I am possibly moving into a house with some other folks, one of which is allergic to cats..and I have a cat! I will be moving into the basement area of the home and my cat will be stayng down there and never allowed to come upstairs where the allergic person is. Is there a possibility that they will still have allergy issues from my cat even if they do not come downstairs? The heat/air system is not seperated so my concern would be the dander getting into the duct system and getting upstairs by that manner. Please help!!

Although it's hard to say for sure, there's definitely a possibility that the dander could spread. Cat dander in particular is very persistent. So it's a real risk. You could also carry the dander from one area to the other.

Things will also depend on how allergic the person is. I used to be OK around cats in limited doses if I didn't touch them and if I wasn't in areas of the house that they frequented.  And I was severely allergic. But the thing with allergies is, that every person is different.

You might want to do a trial run and see what happens...
